Junior, my hero
And Duda became a character in a book
Today our baby is Yuri, a beautiful 7 year old Swiss Shepherd.
My history with dogs started very early when I was still a child and I lived in Montevideo/Uruguay. My parents never allowed animals in the house but my godmother had several dogs and, whenever I could, I would run away to her house to play with them.
Already living in Brazil, I met Jaime, my husband for 38 years, in college and he loves dogs. We had two kids and they grew up with dogs at home. One of them was Junior, a white poodle who was a burst of energy and intelligence. My connection to him was very strong and it got to the point where he saved my life when a brain aneurysm suddenly ruptured one Sunday morning. Nobody around, I just blacked out and Juninho's desperate barking brought me back, which made it possible for me to have no sequelae. I had an operation, spent a few weeks in the ICU and when I returned home, Junior was there like a “faithful squire” taking care of me. After two years of slow recovery, tragedy struck e Junior was run over in front of his house and died instantly. My despair was huge, I cried for days on end and my husband and my daughter Karen decided to give me a new pet, in this case Duda, a playful, decisive and very smart Yorkshireman who came to fill our days with joy. She was so important in my recovery that I decided to write a trilogy of books: “Duda de Yorkshore”.
